iOS - Unable to verify account information

Postby strixx » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:45 pm

Hi,

I have a server at home for my family’s email and calendar. It has been up and running now for two years I believe, whiteout any problem. We use Webaccess and synchronizing our Android-phones. Now we got an iPad 2 with iOS 5.1.1 and tried to sync that as well with ActiveSync, but it’s not working.

The phones is Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.3.3 with TouchDown 7.2.00016, and as I wrote its working fine. No problems what so ever to get them working.

The Server setup is:
Ubuntu server 10.04.1 LTS, Zarafa 6.40.8-27223, Z-push 1.5.10-1262, no SSL.

I have tried reentered the user name and password several times. I have even copied and paste with the help off Dropbox from a working setup. But the result is the same every time. The iPad tells me that it couldn’t verify the account. I’ve tried with or without domain and with internal server IP and external DynDNS name. Nothing works.

Debug.txt doesn’t show anything (and yes it give me info about the Android connections)

Access log for Apache tells me just this:
Code: Select all
192.168.2.100 - user [15/Jun/2012:00:20:53 +0200] "OPTIONS /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync HTTP/1.1" 200 256 "-" "Apple-iPad2C2/902.206"

Today I tried syncing using caldav instead and then it tells me the account settings is OK, but when switching to the calendar app nothing happens. No calendars are visible, switching on iCloud the cal-app works but the Zarafa calendar is still not visible.

Then I tried accessing emails with IMAP, and that worked. But a strange thing occurred will setting up the IMAP account on the iPad. Even though I switched off SSL I got an warning about a certificate that could not be trusted. And that must be the certificate for Webmin that is listening on port 10 000.
Can it be that the Webmin certificate is causing the problems and if so how can i fix that without removing Webmin from the server?

Or is there anyone who has other ideas where I should continue my search for what is causing this to happen.

Hi strixx,

have you also turned of ssl in the iPad's account settings after you saved them (you have to ignore the complaining about not being able to verify the information and simply save)?

Hi strixx,

have you tried disabling the Provisioning? Are there any entries in the apache error log? Could you try to access http://your-server/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync on your iPad?

Solved it!

Yesterday I started debugging useing WireShark. I connected my iPad to my laptop where WireShark was runnig. On the laptop I bridged the WiFi to Ethernet and then tried to setup the account on my iPad. I then notice that it was Apache server that responded to the call and not Z-push.

So I searched the net and found this thread here on this forum: http://z-push.sourceforge.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1215
Someone with the exact same problem.

Before I went to sleep I updated Apache from 2.2.10 (i think) to 2.2.14. But that no change on iPad.

Today my Android stoped syncing. I discovered that PHP had stopped working on the server. After googeling I reeinstalled libapache2-mod-php5 (http://askubuntu.com/questions/59272/php-not-working-in-apache2-after-system-upgrade). Then it worked again.

I then tried
Code: Select all
curl -v -X OPTIONS
and the response has changed from a 200 to a access denied. Wow.

I run down and tried on the iPad, and... IT WORKED!!!

I don't know if it was Apache or the PHP module that caused the error.

PS. Yes I did try to change the provisioning options even before posting, and I had no problems accessing z-push from safari on iPad with the correct response. The problem was that Z-push did not respond to the OPTIONS call from iPads active sync client. TouchDown on android sends POST
